My name is Vanessa Gidden and I am a painter, maker, flower lover, wife, beach go-er, and professionally trained hairdresser in Vancouver. I am and always have been a creative personality who finds complete happiness within the applied arts.
I create original artwork with a focus on painting, but I also enjoy the textile arts as well.
I am mostly self-taught, but received private training with a professional artist when I was 18. Afterwards and throughout my 20's I spent my days off from hairdressing figuring what my practice meant to me as an artist. I experimented with different techniques and styles and expanded my art history knowledge through inspiration from the works of Expressionist artists such as Monet, Pierre Bonnard, and Cezanne.
I paint in acrylic and enhance it with the use of different mediums to aid in blending, opacity, and texture. I enjoy working on a variety of different sizes, although I am currently obsessed with the square format, and I am available to do custom pieces as well - Email me and we'll talk.
